10月18日，负责评审美国新闻界最高荣誉「普立兹奖」的美国哥伦比亚大学新闻学院（the columbia graduate school），联同网络新闻协会（online news association）主办的第三届网络新闻奖(online journalism awards)揭晓，该奖项是网络媒体的最高奖项，有“网络普立兹”之称，旨在表彰在网络新闻报道做出突出贡献的网站。共分最佳普通新闻（最佳新闻网站），最佳突发新闻，最佳产业新闻，最佳服务新闻，最佳媒体创意、最佳网上特写和最佳网上评论，8大类15个奖项，除评论外，其余每类奖项分为两组，一组是独立网站，一组是附属网站（有传统媒体为依托）。washingtonpost.com网站也在本次评审中获多项大奖，成为另一个赢家。据悉，这次颁奖机构共收到了来自10个國家的728个被推荐单位，最终的获奖者是由一个知名新闻业内人士组成的小组来选定的。
颁奖小组主席bruce koon表示：“网络已经迅速成长为一种新的新闻获取渠道，今年的候选网站在网络新闻事业中做出的贡献非常卓越，这超过了我们的预料。”cnet news.com获得了突发新闻（breaking news）、企业报道（enterprise journalism）以及网站整体印象（general excellence）三项大奖，而washingtonpost.com则获得了企业报道及网站整体印象两项大奖。其他获奖网站还包括benicianews.com、pbs.org、cnn.com，第一届大出风头的著名网络媒体salon多项入围，却没有最后获奖。it专栏作家中最著名的博客dan gillmor，入选最佳网上评论，但也没能最终抱得奖项，令人遗憾。
在互联网的寒风中，“博客中国”整理出完整的获奖名单，为大家增添一点暖意。并附上著名新媒体评论家孙坚华有关第一届网络新闻奖的介绍文章《为新媒体确立标准——解读美国“网络新闻奖”》，这也是目前为止该奖项在中国最详实的介绍。
